The Lara variety of Carambola, or “Star Fruit” as they’re commonly called due to their crisp star-shaped fruit, is a fast-growing, heavy producing evergreen tropical fruit tree. The Florida hybrid ‘Lara’ Carambola is known for its rich yellow-orange color and snappy, sweet flavor.

Carambola produces prolific and gorgeous, pink, purple, and white flowers. These flowers stem off of woody branches, and bear a lot of fruit in the summer and fall. Carambola will bloom throughout most of the year, but prominently throughout May and September/October.  The bright yellow to orange fruit is naturally waxy with a length and width that varies slightly by cultivar. The flavor is similar to a sweet-tart blend of green apple, pear, grape, and citrus. In Florida, harvest season is generally from June through February, with peaks in fruit production during August through September, and December through February.

Star Fruit is easy to grow in a container and can thrive in a large pot. In the colder months they may lose their leaves, so they should be overwintered indoors if temperatures reach below freezing! Prune Carambola trees in late winter.

    Unbelievable growth

When I received my Star Fruit Lara tree I wasn't impressed at all. I emailed customer support, they told me to plant it and it would recover from transport. Well,,, it did! And it only took 2 days. My tree is growing so fast and has beautiful flowers already. This is actually the 2nd Star fruit tree I've purchased from Sow. (When I received the 1st tree it had fruit already on it.) I lost the 1st one in the freeze last winter, even though I brought it inside into the shed, I couldn't save it. This winter my tree is coming into the house. I'm Not taking any chances. If you're thinking about getting a S.F Lara, don't hesitate, they are worth the price. I absolutely love this tree❗

I got exactly what I ordered. For the size of the plant I was surprised at how well it was packaged. There was some damage to the box but it was not the sellers fault. The seller even reinforced it on the weakest points which was impressive to say the least
