Growing Guide: Society Garlic
Growing Tips
Also known as: Society Garlic
Plant Society Garlic in full sun and provide well-draining soil. Space plants 6–12 inches apart and plant in spring or fall. Water thoroughly after planting and regularly during the first 4–6 weeks, then water only during extended dry periods once established. Apply a balanced fertilizer in spring, deadhead spent flowers, and remove damaged leaves as needed. Divide established clumps every 2–3 years to maintain healthy, vigorous growth. In colder zones, protect plants with mulch or grow them in containers that can be moved indoors for winter. Watch for slugs and snails, and avoid overwatering to help prevent root rot.
Harvesting
Snip young leaves as needed for fresh use, taking care not to remove too much foliage at once. Harvest the edible flowers when they are open and use them fresh as garnishes or to add mild garlic flavor to dishes.
