Rollinia (Rollinia deliciosa)
VERY Limited Release!
Rollinia deliciosa is fast-growing, flood tolerant, sun-loving tropical/subtropical fruit tree in the custard-apple family (Annonaceae) alongside cherimoya and soursop.
Rollinia is native to South America. It is cultivated for its delicious and exotic edible fruit that tastes like lemon meringue pie! The soft spined, dodgeball-sized fruit has soft, sweet pulp and many seeds inside. In Brazil, the fruit’s native land, the Rollinia is often fermented into wine.
Rollinia is a fast-growing, medium sized tree grows that smooth, deep green leaves with deep yellow veins, a signature to the tree. Their fascinating flowers are triangular, butter-colored and hairy. Traditionally, Rollinia’s sturdy, yellow wood works well for carving canoes, masts, and main bows for the Berimbau, the Afro-Brazilian instrument named from the tree. The fruit is an excellent source of vitamin C.
The fruit does not have a long shelf life, so it is not easily grown commercially. The best way to enjoy the rare and delicious Rollinia fruit is to grow your own!
