Growing Tips
Plant Dosakai (Dosakaya) in full sun after the last frost when soil temperatures reach 70°F. It thrives in warm, tropical to subtropical climates and is best suited to Zones 9–11. Provide fertile, well-draining soil with a pH of 6.0–7.0, amended with compost or organic matter. Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged, and mulch to retain moisture. Sow seeds 1 inch deep, spacing plants 12–18 inches apart, with 3–5 ft. between rows. In cooler climates, start seeds indoors 3–4 weeks before the last frost. Provide a trellis or cage to support the vines and improve airflow. Feed every 4–6 weeks during the growing season. Monitor for cucumber beetles, aphids, spider mites, powdery mildew, and downy mildew. Harvest firm, mature fruits when they turn bright yellow with green stripes or spots, cutting them from the vine with a knife or shears.
